Why Bedrock Exists

Mining is the crown jewel of the Canadian economy. It is also, systematically, under siege.

Canada’s mining sector generates over $120 billion in annual economic activity, employs hundreds of thousands of Canadians, and supplies the critical minerals that underpin the energy transition. It is also one of the most misrepresented, most obstructed, and most politically vulnerable industries in the country. Bedrock exists to change that.

The Problem

The industry has been winning the technical arguments and losing the political ones.

01

The Opposition Organized

The opposition is not spontaneous. It is professional, funded, and coordinated across NGOs, media organizations, political networks, and regulatory bodies. These organizations operate with long-term strategic objectives, sustained funding, and coordinated deployment across every channel that shapes public opinion and political will.

02

The Industry Responded Alone

The industry has responded company by company, project by project, and crisis by crisis. Individual organizations hire communications firms when pressure arrives. Trade associations manage government relationships. Neither is positioned to do what the opposition does: operate continuously, at the sector level, across every channel simultaneously.

03

The Consequences Followed

The result is an industry that is frequently surprised by developments that were visible months in advance. Projects delayed, permits denied, capital diverted, and political support quietly eroded, not because the facts are against the industry, but because the industry isn’t organized to fight at the level it is being fought against.

The problem is not the facts. It is the absence of a coordinated response.

The Mission

Bedrock’s mission is to advance a new narrative on Canadian mining, one that secures long-term, entrenched public support for the industry’s advancement through partnerships, campaigns, and storytelling that reaches the audiences that matter.

01

Turn public opinion sharply in favour of the mining industry, so that an attack on mining becomes an attack on the public.

02

Pressure governments to reverse the regulatory burdens and hostile legislation that make Canada toxic to mining investment.

03

Prepare the electorate to weigh their options based on candidates’ and parties’ stance on resource development.

What We Believe

Opposing mining is opposing Canada. It is opposing the jobs, the communities, the prosperity, and the sovereignty that resource development creates and protects.

We believe the mining industry’s story is one of the most important untold stories in Canada. The environmental performance of modern Canadian mining is among the best in the world. The economic contribution to GDP, to employment, to Indigenous economic development, and to the tax base that funds public services is well-documented and significant. None of this has been effectively communicated to the Canadian public. Bedrock exists to do that: systematically, permanently, and at scale.

The fight for Canadian mining is already underway. The only question is whether the industry is organized to win it.
